2016 Hurricane Season; What Can We Expect?

Hurricane season runs each year from June 1st to November 30th. Although hurricanes have occurred outside of this 6 month “season”, the majority of hurricanes do occur within this period. Each year the Weather Channel makes a prediction for the upcoming hurricane season. Below is a chart that shows the predictions of The Weather Channel, Colorado State University, and the NOAA (National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration) compared to the 30-year average.

As you can see in the chart, these organizations are predicting a very active hurricane season that is fairly consistent with the 30-year average.
So what exactly does this mean for the United States? Since this prediction refers to storms overall, there is no guarantee that any will actually make landfall in the United States. We could be hit by one or more, or none at all. This means that regardless the coastal United States should be prepared.
Typically, the United States averages between 1-2 hurricanes that make landfall each year. However, over the last 10 years that number has been below average. The current ten year running total (2006-2015) of hurricanes that have made landfall in the U.S. is seven. Below you can see the seven storms and their paths.

Based on the last decade of below average hurricane activity in the United States we can expect that the U.S. is due for a major strike sooner rather than later. However, it is impossible to say whether or not that will occur this season.
Bottom line: The coastal United States needs to be prepared for whatever this hurricane season has in store. Just keep in mind that ServiceMaster by Bailey can handle any kind of storm damage to your home. We are available 24/7/365, at your side and on your side.
